Proper nutrition plays an important role in maintaining eye health and can prevent from eye diseases. Make sure that the daily food you eat to some extent can provide important nutrients to maintain eye health. Practice eating foods rich in vitamins A & C-milk, vegetables (especially carrots and broccoli) and fruits (especially apricots and grapes) and so on.

2. Exercises for The Eyes

  • Go outside the house, look at an object near you, then gradually look at objects farther away, as far as possible. After that look back at the objects near you. Repeat this process several times.
  • Move your eyes to the right as much as possible, pause, then to the left, pause, then up, down and center. Repeat this process several times.
  • After 1 to 2 hours in front of a computer, pause, look at green objects outside your home or office, such as trees and so on. The green color will be able to soothe and relax your eyes.

3. Turn away from computers and smartphones

Most jobs require the use of a computer for several hours a day. Excessive use of smartphones can also lead to the risk of eye problems, especially use in the dark. Using a computer in the right way can ensure good eye health. Some guides are provided for computer users, namely:

  • Make sure the position of the computer is level with the eyes in a horizontal position and 30 cm from the eyes.
  • Eye fatigue due to computer use occurs when there is excessive light from external sources (sun) and lighting in the house or office. Make sure the lighting around the computer is half dimmer than the light bulbs used in the home and office. Use office or room lighting that has the appropriate intensity.
  • Eye fatigue due to glare from light sources can occur due to the reversal of light from wall surfaces, computer screens and so on.
  • Avoid using brightly colored room walls, such as white and use computer screens that have light filters.

Get an eye exam at least once a year to make sure your vision level and eye health are always in good condition. Seek medical advice immediately if you have the following problems:

  • Red eye.
  • Severe pain in the eyes.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Foreign objects in the eyes.
  • Injuries to the eyes.

5. Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses are glasses that provide Ultraviolet (UV) protection from sunlight. Make sure you seek advice from an optometrist when choosing the right sunglasses for you.
