Humans and plastic seem inseparable as many rely on plastic items in their daily lives. Almost every household has plastic items because they are durable, waterproof, attractive, and affordable, making them a constant choice for people, besides helping to simplify many of their daily tasks.
Many people consider the excessive use of plastic as a trivial issue, to the point of littering carelessly instead of disposing of waste properly. However, behind this, many are unaware that plastic is a 'silent' enemy to humans and can be 'deadly'. There are many steps to reduce the burden of plastic on the environment and life, for example:
a) replacing the use of polystyrene food containers and single-use plastics with containers made from eco-friendly materials;
b) encouraging campus members to bring their own food and drink containers;
c) not using single-use plastic straws;
d) not providing single-use plastic plates, bowls, or cutlery;
e) replacing single-use plastic bags with eco-friendly bags; and
f) replacing plastic bottles with glass bottles or water jugs.
Although these steps may seem like small efforts, if we can maintain these practices continuously, plastic usage will gradually decrease over time.
