UPM Alumni Conquered Everest

Mr. Ravichandran Tharumalingam is the Malaysia’s First Solo Climber to Conquer Mount Everest on May 15, 2006 and listed as Malaysia Best Records in Malaysia Book of Records. He has also managed to conquer most of the peaks of seven (7) continents and now serves as a mountain guide for some of the peaks of seven (7) continents. Alumni of the 6th College and Faculty of Agriculture UPM are also athletes of the UPM football team and have participated in the Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM) and Asean University Games (AUG).

On 21 May 2022, he once again managed to capture the summit of Everest and wave UPM flag in the mission "UPM at the Peak of the World@Everest" making UPM the first Public University in Malaysia to successfully do so at the highest peak in the world by its alumni. Mr. Ravi’s efforts show this challenging mission needs determination and readiness as well as the high discipline that needs to be possessed to achieve something set. Careful planning coupled with high confidence is the key to success. Of course, every success requires sacrifice, and his achievement should be used as a catalyst and impetus for UPM citizens to continue to create success in various fields, especially to achieve the goals of UPM's Strategic Plan.

Sincere congratulations Mr. Ravichandran Tharumalingam on your hard-earned success!

He lost 8 fingers to Everest. But it didn't deter Mr. Ravichandran
from making a 3rd attempt to scale the peak.
