CLINICAL PATHOLOGY

The clinical pathology field focuses on disease diagnosis and monitoring through laboratory analysis of blood, urine, body fluids, secretions, and tissue specimens. The laboratory tests include haematology, clinical biochemistry, urinalysis, cytology and molecular techniques. Research in this field mainly involve are mostly conducted on diseases of the blood and immune system, coagulation disorders, infectious and noninfectious diseases, cancers, disease biomarkers, and abnormalities of other body systems. Clinical pathology is an important tool in toxicological studies, determination of effect and efficacy of drugs and natural products in the treatment of diseases and in monitoring of healing and recovery from induced and natural-occuring diseases in animals. The techniques employed in clinical pathology analyses are also used in the determination of animal population health and disease prevalence and outbreaks.
