What is the UPM-University of Glasgow Double Postgraduate Masters Degree Programme?

The Double Postgraduate Masters Degree Programme with University of Glasgow (UoG) is a collaboration programme between UPM and UoG, where upon completion of the programme, students will be awarded with two certificates, one from UPM and one from UoG.

The programme consists of three course components:

1. Taught Programme (60 credits of taught material covered in Semesters 1 and 2 at UoG)
2. Research Project 1 (60 credits spanning Semester 1 and 2 at UoG)
3. Research project 2 (60 credits in Semester 3 at UPM)

How long does it take?

The programme takes four semesters to complete. Students are required to spend two semesters at UoG and two semesters at UPM.

What are the benefits?

The overall aim of this programme is to provide students possessing good first degrees in the Biomedical, Medical and Veterinary Sciences with the basic skills required for a research career in either pure or applied research. The aims of this programme are to provide the student with:

  • The knowledge, skills and confidence needed to pursue a career in laboratory research.
  • A theoretical and practical understanding of basic and advanced techniques used in modern molecular biology and biotechnology research.
  • Research skills in the laboratory by completing two extensive research projects.
  • An understanding of the regulatory issues relevant to research involving genetic modification.

The processing fee for international students is USD63.60 (or equivalent). For local applicants, the processing fee is MYR63.60.

What are the entry requirements?

A Bachelor’s degree from UPM, or any degree from any equivalent University that is approved by the UPM and UoG Senate. The applicant's Grade Point Average (GPA) or degree level should normally be equivalent to an Upper Second Class Honours degree.

Applicants are also required to provide evidence of proficiency in English that is equivalent of an IELTS qualification at level 6.5 with no subtest below 6.0.
