SERDANG, Feb 20 – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), held an ‘Advance In Internal Medicine 2017’ (AIM 2017) conference to improve knowledge on internal medicine and cancer among medical professionals and members of the public with regards to healthcare services in the region.

AIM 2017 Conference Director, Dr. Bahariah Khalis said Internal Medicine is a vital medical knowledge applicable to all doctors in the world that could facilitate them in discharging their duties.

“It forms the very basis of medical knowledge before a doctor goes to the sub-level expertise of becoming specialities such as neurologist, cardiologist, kidney specialist and so on,” she said.

At the conference, a pre-conference session was held where participants gave their views on old medical knowledge but which is still relevant with present time to go with the topics given.

“In Malaysia, such a session is direly needed due to fast-paced globalization, in particular in this era of high technology, where the views put forward by medical practitioners may not all be accepted,” she said.

She added that the conference formed a platform for physicians, paramedics and nurses to better understand blood cancer which is rarely discussed by members of the public.

Themed ‘Advancing Medicine, Improving Patient’s Outcome’, AIM 2017 was also attended by Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Jalil Nordin; Head of the Department of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fazli Abdul Azizi; and Vice-Chancellor-cum-UCSI University President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Khalid Yusoff.- UPM
