KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26
– Deputy Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi launched a book entitled Hang Tuah: Catatan Okinawa, co-authored by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bahasa Melayu Department lecturers, Prof Emeritus Dr. Hashim Musa and Dr. Rohaidah Kamaruddin.

The book was to prove the existence of Hang Tuah during the heyday of the Malacca Sultanate based on a research study done in Okinawa, Japan, with the help of the Japanese Education Ministry.

The book also touched on the Ryukyu Empire, also known as Okinawa, and diplomatic relations with the Malacca Empire as stated in Rekidai Hoan, a historical document which had been verified as valid by scholars and the finding of archeological evidence to prove the existence of Hang Tuah.

The notes in the book confirmed that Admiral Hang Tuah once served as the Malacca Empire’s diplomatic officer to India, Turkey and Patani, and that his influence and strength were recognized by various quarters in the whole world.
