Giving Back to The Community - Lens of Knowledge 2.1: Colours with Community!

August 5th, 2023, SERDANG - The knowledge acquired is something that should be shared with the broader community to create a balanced social sphere. The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) has taken a new step by implementing a project with the indigenous community in the Puchong area. The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) and Putra Farming Center have been the main partners in SGS's corporate social responsibility (CSR) project this time. The project, conducted on August 4-5, 2023, in the Rasau Hilir Orang Asli Village (Temuan Tribe), Puchong, focused on knowledge transfer, improvement, and brightening of the surrounding village area. Key activities such as sessions with children under 12 years old, cleaning, mural painting, and tree planting were carried out during this program.

Mr. Baharuddin, the Tok Batin (village head) of the village, expressed his appreciation for SGS for conducting the project in his village. He also welcomed such cooperation in the future. Tok Batin Bah welcomed SGS's efforts to refurbish the surau (prayer hall) and village hall in the area.

The program was also attended by the local community of the village, helping with tree planting, and supervising the children who attended the program. A total of 30 SGS members successfully planted 41 trees around the village and managed an internet safety program with the children in the village hall. The group of children was selected based on the broader internet dangers they might face if excessive exposure was not well-controlled for their age.

The program concluded around 5:00 PM with a photography session and the distribution of prizes to the children who participated in the program. The prize distribution session was officiated by Prof. Dr. Firdaus Mukhtar, Deputy Dean (Admissions, Institutional Relations, and Financial Aid), and Ms. Norhasliza Hassan, Deputy Registrar of SGS.
