Putra Garden Café UPM is now operational to produce budding entrepreneurs

SERDANG, August 8 – Putra Garden Café K-Shoppe MyAgrosis UPM which started operating since last March is being run by three participants from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Agri-Entrepreneur Incubation Programme.

UPM Agri-Entrepreneur Incubation Unit Senior Fellow Consultant, Sahbani Saimin said they were given two to three years to manage the project before continuing their business outside UPM.

Under this programme, participants are required to provide their own start-up capital to operate the project and pay the monthly rent to UPM.

The project placed under the Agriculture Faculty, was developed at a cost of RM313,316.20 using the allocation from the Agriculture Faculty and the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA).

Putra Garden Café K-Shoppe MyAgrosis UPM is one of the National Blue Ocean Strategy programmes between UPM, Higher Education Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry.

Kelab MyAgrosis was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2012.

The programme is in support of national policies to produce agro-based graduate entrepreneurs in all public universities in line with the government’s aspiration to enhance agriculture produce through the use of latest technology to achieve a high-income developed nation status by 2020.


Sahbani also said Putra Garden Café K-Shoppe MyAgrosis UPM being one of the projects of Kelab MyAgrosis, served as a showcase for commercial businesses for UPM’s Kelab MyAgrosis.

He added that it also served as the sale centre for various UPM products which indirectly will enable UPM to offer its wide range of goods to the community, enhanced its image as a university with agriculture produce that could be commercialized and as the promotional centre for UPM to introduce its products on a periodically basis.

It also served as the training centre for UPM commercial  learning entrepreneurship programme students and as a place where various researches in the field of marketing could be carried out, he said. – UPM.
