October 2023, SERDANG - The Graduate School (SPS), through the Putra Sarjana learning assistance program, has organized three (3) sessions with invited speakers for October 2023. The seminars, focusing on thesis writing techniques, postgraduate study processes, self-worth, and effective communication, were conducted free of charge for postgraduate students at UPM.

The session on October 6, 2023, was conducted online with Prof. Ts. Dr. Goh Yong Meng, a Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Deputy Director of the Research Management Center, UPM. The sharing session titled 'Securing Grants Through an Effective Proposal' was attended by 220 students via the Zoom Meetings application. Prof. Goh shared fundamental tips on producing a quality research proposal to secure research grants. This included techniques for identifying research problems, types of grants to apply for, and planning research implementation according to grant requirements. Participants actively posed questions at the end of the session, and positive feedback reflected the effectiveness of Prof. Goh's presentation. The seminar lasted for 2 hours, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The monthly series continued with a session featuring Dr. Thavamaran Kanesan, Chief Editor of Educational Consultant of Proofreading by a UK PhD. Dr. Thavamaran explained data search techniques and journal writing as essential aspects of postgraduate studies. The pinnacle stage in this process always concerns postgraduate students, and it was detailed by the guest speaker in the session 'Thesis Literature Matrix: Litmaps.AI, Google Scholar, and Literature Writing.' Dr. Thavamaran's explanation of the integration of AI in information retrieval attracted the interest of 176 students who remained actively engaged throughout the session. This online session took place on October 11, 2023, from 10:10 AM to 12:40 PM, concluding with a photography session and a participant Q&A.

The November 2023 edition of the Putra Sarjana program concluded with a Biosafety and Biosecurity slot presented by Associate Professor Dr. Leslie Than Thian Lung and Professor Dr. Wong Mui Yun. The face-to-face session was held in the Raden Umar Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, UPM, on October 20, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Both speakers are members of the UPM Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee. The slot focused on laboratory equipment handling techniques and examples of accidents that could arise from students' negligence. Attendees asked questions about policies and specific regulations regarding the types of equipment used for their research.
