PERTH, August 29 – The Supreme Council of the Second College Undergraduates 2015/2016 Session, with the cooperation of College of Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), recently took up the challenge of holding a mobility programme for two weeks to Perth, Western Australia.
The Professional Learning Mobility Program (PLMP) 2016, led by Saniah Mohd as programme director, was assisted by the Malaysian Student Councils Association of Western Australia (MASCA WA) and several local universities in Perth.
The programme featured Second College Principal, Dr. Saidon Amri as the head of delegation, and Second College Fellow Head, Dr. Mohd Hafizal Ismail, as programme supervisor and 11 college students.
The main objectives of the program were to expose students to the environment, advancement in technology, development of intellectual and educational level and to enable them to study the progress and socio-economic condition of the country they visited.
The programme’s main activities were visits to local universities and interactions with university representatives. Among the universities visited were the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University and Curtin University. The programme was a success based on overwhelming response and hospitality received from the universities visited.
Saniah said the organizer of the programme was grateful to the universities visited by UPM delegation as the latter was able to learn about the universities concerned and share their experience and knowledge about their history as well.
"Besides the exposure, we had the opportunity to introduce UPM to them. Through this, we could help encourage the exchange of information and knowledge on management and learning systems adopted by the respective universities,” she said.
Dr. Saidon, meanwhile, said this pilot programme served as a platform for Second College Undergraduates Supreme Council to bring the university to greater heights at the international level.
“Such programme provides thoughtful experience, knowledge as well as skills that can be put into practice, in particular communication and critical thinking skills. It can also be used as a benchmark for the Supreme Council to bring the good name of the college to a level that we all can be proud of,” he said. – UPM.
