SGS Being Committed Towards Workspace Health and Safety

July 14th, 2023, Serdang – In the effort to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for its members, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) have been consistently carrying out intensive safety measures. This includes the safety of the building, service facilities, emergency tools and staff members’ reaction towards any form of emergency.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Committee of SGS have conducted an internal audit on 21st June 2023, with the help of for external auditors. Mrs. Liyana Ithnin (Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences), Mrs. Khairun Aqilah (Occupational Safety and Health Management Office) and 2 more officers from the First responder Unit of UPM, have carried out a thorough audit in different components of occupational safety. Among the scopes were fire prevention system, the currently enforced acts regarding natural disaster management and scheduled waste disposal management.

The idea of occupational safety was further enhanced by the fire drill exercise that was conducted on 14th July 2023. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) of SGS led the entire program. The involved departments were, the University Health Centre (PKU), Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (PPKKP) and the University Safety Division (BKU). This practice has evaluated the overall rate and procedure applied by the staff members during afire incident.

In summary, the continuous practice involving different approaches portrays SGS’s commitment in taking a serious stance when it comes to the safety and health of its staff members.
