PUTRAJAYA, October 15–A lecturer from Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Assoc Prof Dr Mat Rofa Ismail won the scientific literature or Karya Ilmiah 2014 award (in science and technology category) for his book Mantik dan Etnomantik,which was picked by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the National Professors' Council (MPN) as the best book published in 2014.
The award was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in conjunction with the launch of the National Language Month in Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
Assoc Prof Dr Mat Rofawho is a lecturer at the Mathematics Department, won the award certificate and a check worth RM20,000.
The book, published by DBP is about logical thinking in science and technology, mathematics, philosophy, theology and algorithms.
Winners of the awards were selected through their books sent by the respective university presses to the secretariat of the Scholarly Books Council, DBP, and the award is deemed as the country's highest prize for scholarly publishing in Malay language.
National Language Month is organised by the DBP and the Ministry of Education each year. The campaign for this year has started in September and will end in November.
One of the objectives of this campaign is to strengthen and promote the use of the Malay language in fostering unity among the people in this country.
Also present at the ceremony were the Social and Cultural Advisor to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Director-General Datuk Dr Awang Sariyan, Education Director-General, Datuk Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof, Public Service Director, Tan Sri Zabidi Zainal and Putrajaya Corporation Director, Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
