UPM trains Bangladesh officers in leadership



SERDANG, June 29 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has collaborated with the Bangladesh government for the first time to conduct an Advanced Leadership Course for 200 senior officers of the  Bangladesh government over the last four months.

Dean of the Graduate School of Management (GSM) UPM, Prof. Dr. Arfah Salleh said the course was to help enhance the capability of Bangladesh’s senior officers and improve their leadership skills by exposing them to best practices in the  public service  and socio-economic development in Malaysia.

Prof. Arfah explained, “The knowledge gained from such exposure could help these officers contribute to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh when they return.



“The Bangladesh government could learn from Malaysia’s experience and achieve its goal to achieve middle income country status by 2012,” he said at the closing of the Advanced Leadership Course here.

Prof. Arfah revealed that Malaysian senior officers from various public sectors were invited to share their experiences, knowledge and expertise with the Bangladesh officers.

The Bangladesh government chose the  Graduate School of Management in UPM to conduct this course as it is the best business school the country.

Prof. Arfah added that the university was looking forward to training more officers from the Bangladesh civil service in the future to help them enhance the sustainability of the government of Bangladesh to achieve their vision to become a middle income country by 2021.
