UPM Year in Review 2015



International Awards

WEBOMETRICS RANKING


UPM was ranked first in Malaysia by 'Ranking Web of Universities' (Webometrics Ranking), a web site ranking for Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) in its January edition of 2015.  In its July edition 2014, UPM was placed second in the ranking for IPT in the country, and this was the second time that UPM had suceeded to obtain the first place since January 2012. At the Asia level, UPM was placed in the 76th position, hence improving its position by 21 after it was placed 97th in its 2014 July edition.

UPM surged amongst the world’s universities when it was placed in the 420th position, improving by 90 when it was placed at 510th previously, and it suceeded to be among the world’s 1,000 best universities starting from 2009 until today.

QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKING BY SUBJECTS


UPM maintains its performances as one of the world’s best 100 universities in the field of Agriculture and Forestry for three consecutive years by QS World University Ranking by Subjects. In the fields of Accountancy and Finance, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering, it was in the world’s 150th position. Adding to its string of successes, UPM was among the world’s 200 best universities in the fields of  Literature and English, Public and Structural Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Sains Bahan (Resource Science?), Business and Management, Education, Economics and Econometrics, Computer Science and Information.

IEEE CAS (M) DOCTORAL DISSERTATION AWARD
 


A PhD student from UPM’s Engineering Faculty, Dr. Wameedh Nazar Flayyh was picked by IEEE Society -Circuits and Systems Malaysia Chapter as the winner for IEEE CAS (M) Doctoral Dissertation Award 2014.

WORLD ARCHERY


A Third Year Bachelor of Human Development student in the Human Ecology Faculty of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Saritha Cham Nong, created history when she and two other women team archers won the compound event in the first stage of the 2015  World Cup level held in Shanghai, China.

The trio – Saritha Cham Nong, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Nor Rizah Ishak – beat the world’s number one team from the United States of America, represented by Crystal Gauvin, Angela Bradley and Lexi Keller in the final with 220-219 points.

FIRST MALAYSIAN IN OIE


UPM Veterinary Medicine lecturer, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Shariff Mohamed Din has been selected to be a member of the World Organization For Animal Health (OIE)’s Aquatic Animals Health Standards Commission for a duration of six years.

His appointment was made during the Annual Meeting of OIE held from May 24 to May 29. His appointment makes him the first Malaysian as the committee member, together with five other representatives from Australia, Canada, Chile, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.

QS ASIA UNIVERSITY RANKING


UPM improved its position when it was placed 66th in 2015, against 76th position in 2014 under Asia best universities ranking evaluation by the ranking agency - QS University Ranking.

BEREND HOUWEN TRAVEL AWARD


Angeli  d/o Ambayya @ Ampiah, a student of the Master of Science (Haematology), Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM, made UPM proud when she won the prestigious 2015 Berend Houwen Travel Award. The prestigious award was given away during the 28th International Symposium on Technological Innovations in Laboratory Haematology) held in conjunction with the annual conference of the International Society of Laboratory Haematology (ISLH) in Chicago, America, from May 19 to 21.

FELLOW OF INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION (SAE)


Professor Ir Dr Mohd Sapuan Salit who is Biocomposite Laboratory head of UPM’s Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest products (INTROP) created history when he became the first engineer from Malaysia to have been picked  as Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE). SAE International is an international association with more than 138,000 members, comprising engineers and technical experts in related fields such as the aeronautical industry, automotive and commercial vehicles. This prestigious award was in recognition of his significant and impactful contributions in technologies that could enhance community mobility via leadership, research and innovation.




INTERNATIONAL BAHASA MELAYU DEBATE


UPM’s Computer Science and Information Technology student, Waleed Basil Mohammed Ali from Iraq, won second place in the final of Bahasa Melayu International Debate of the 2015 Prime Minister’s Cup under the Foreign Students’ Category in Malaysia.

ACADEMIC RANKING OF WORLD UNIVERSITIES- SUBJECT 2015


UPM berjaya berada dalam ranking 200 terbaik dunia untuk subjek Matematik melalui penarafan Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) - Subject 2015 yang diumumkan oleh Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University pada 15 Ogos 2015. ARWU – Subject dinilai berdasarkan indikator alumni dan staf yang memenangi Nobel Prizes, Fields Medals and Turing Awards, Highly Cited Researchers, papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) dan the percentage of papers published in the top 20% journals.

WORLD INVENTOR AWARD (WIA) : 'ORDER OF MERIT: BEST INVENTION FOR CHILDREN'


Dr Mohamad Fazli from UPM’s Human Ecology Faculty won the 'Order of Merit : Best Invention for Children’ in the World Inventor Award (WIA), through his innovative “Smart Money Kit: Bright Kid Smart Money’. This was the first time that UPM had won such an award in WIA – a recognition much awaited for by UPM researchers at the international level.

LINDAU NOBEL LAUREATES 65th


Dr. Amirah Abdul Latif and Dr. Haslina Ahmad from the Science Faculty of  UPM, were named Saintis Muda Negara (Malaysian Young Scientist) by the Malaysian Science Academy to represent the country to the 65th Lindau Nobel Laureates in Germany.

EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEACH (CERN)  SUMMER PROGRAM



UPM’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) Physics student, Muhammad Khairul Adib Muhammad Yusuf, was among those picked to undergo a Summer Programme of the European Organization For Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland.

SEARCA REGIONAL PROFESSORIAL CHAIR


Head of UPM’s Biocomposite Technology Laboratory of the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products, Profesor  Ir Dr Mohd Sapuan Salit, was named as the grant recipient of SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair for the 2015/2016 session. His selection was based on his string of success and contributions towards sustainable agriculture and rural development in the South East Asia region. He was the first academic scholar from Malaysia to have been granted the award. The other five were from the Philippines.

AUSTRALIA - APEC WOMEN IN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP


Dr Zetty Norhana Balia Yusof, a lecturer of the Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences Faculty of UPM, has been chosen to undergo Australia - APEC Women in Research Fellowship. She will be conducting a research entitled “Screening, identification and isolation of bioactive compounds exhibiting antioxidant and antibacterial activities from selected endemic marine microalgae and macroalgae.” The Australia - APEC Women in Research Fellowship provides financial assistance to outstanding women researchers from developing APEC nations to pursue their research with the collaboration of Australian research and educational institutions.

BEST GLOBAL UNIVERSITIES FOR AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES


Best Global Universites Ranking for Agricultural Sciences which is published by US News & World Report listed UPM as one of the world’s best through its 45th position in the world against 54th in 2014. The ranking score for UPM Science Agriculture subject rose by 3.7 per cent from the score of 68 in 2014 to 71.7 in 2015. The increase in score in the subject placed UPM as the top university in South East Asia and the seventh in Asia.

QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKING


UPM put up an excellent display of worldly performance when it went up by 45 steps in the QS World University Ranking 2015/2016. UPM emerged as the research university in Malaysia with the best performance when it improved its position in the world’s ranking to 331st in 2015 compared to 376th in 2014. Its success was supported by an increase in scores in four main indicators - Faculty Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty dan International Students.

QS TOP 50 UNDER 50


UPM displayed an outstanding achievement when for the first time, it was ranked in the 38th position in the “QS  Top 50 under 50” as announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2015/16. University assessment in QS Top 50 under 50 is based on the same criteria used by QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2015 that encompassed  academic reputation, employer’s reputation, researcher and internationalization. The ranking is for universities established after the year 1965.

PINGAT TUNKU AWARD, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN FOUNDATION

 
Ana Masara Ahmad Mokhtar, a UPM graduate majoring in the Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Sciences) was awarded a Gold Medal by Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation during its  2014 Pingat Tunku Award ceremony. The award was introduced in 1979 and offered only to selected bright students who obtained Bachelor’s Degree  with First Class Honours from local and private universities (IPTA/S) and active in academic, co-curriculum and showed leadership qualities. The recipient of 2014 Pingat Tunku Award (Bronze medal) was also won by UPM graduate, M. Sugentiran, a Bachelor of Software Engineering student. Ana Masara Ahmad Mokhtar and M. Sugentiran were recipients of the Bumiputra and Non-Bumiputra Education Gold Medal respectively during UPM’s 39th Convocation which took place from November 1 to November 4, 2014.

MASUM SPORTS AWARD


Three UPM students won three main prizes at the 2014 Malaysian Universities Sports Competition. They were Zulhijjah Azan, a squash player who was picked as 2014 MASUM Female Athlete winner, Jasmi Mohamad Zin, a shooting athlete who won 2014 MASUM Male Budding Star award and M Yokananthini, a karate-do athlete who won 2014 MASUM Female Budding Star award. 

Other awards won by UPM athletes are as follow:
Saritha d/o Cham Nong (Archery): 2014 MASUM Best Female Athlete.
Zulkiflee Azmi (Rugby): 2014 MASUM Best Male Athlete.

TOKOH SISWA AWARD

 
TWO UPM students were recipients of the Pemimpin Kolej Kediaman Terbaik and  Sukarelawan Pembangunan Belia Terbaik awards at the Anugerah Tokoh Siswa 2014 event. The students Muhammad Hanif Ramlan, who is President of Majlis Tertinggi Mahasiswa Kolej Ke-13, was named the winner for  Anugerah Pemimpin Kolej Kediaman Terbaik, while Ling Tian Wong, a Bachelor in Education (Teaching of Bahasa Malaysia as the First Language) student at the Education Faculty, won the category - Anugerah Sukarelawan Pembangunan Belia Terbaik. The Anugerah Tokoh Siswa recognizes and supports undergraduates who strive to be holistic and competent individuals in tandem with current economical and development demands.

HOLDER OF TUN ABDUL RAZAK CHAIR

 
Prof. Dr. Jayum Jawan, who is Deputy Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the Human Ecology Faculty was appointed by the Education Ministry as the 15th holder of the Tun Abdul Razak Chair at Ohio University in the United States of America, effective July 1, 2015. His appointment is an acknowledgement to UPM academic officers, particularly those specializing in the field of political science programme and the history of the Malaysian Government administration.

MAULIDUR RASUL AWARD


Associate Prof. Dr. Hafidzi Mohd. Noor from the Agriculture Faculty was chosen as the recipient of Maulidur Rasul 1436H/2015 Award, held in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s national-level celebration at Putra Mosque, Putrajaya, on January 3, 2015.

IPT NETBALL LEAGUE

 
UPM Netball team was the champion of 2015 IPT Netball Championship held from April 1 to April 5, 2015, at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. UPM emerged the best team among 12 others that took part in the championship.

MALAYSIAN TECHNOLOGY EXPO (MTE)

 
UPM researchers took home three gold and a special award at the 2015 Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE) held from February 12 to 14 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). UPM researchers also walked away with four silver and nine bronze in the event which displayed 16 innovations under various categories. UPM also won the second place under the Best Booth Design Shell Scheme Category.

INSTITUTIONS Of HIGHER LEARNING FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP, NORTHERN ZONE CIRCUIT, EDUCATION MINISTER’S TROPHY

 

UPM team made the university proud when it emerged champion in the women category at the 2015 Insitutions of Higher Learning (IPT) Futsal Championship, Northern Circuit, bringing home the Education Minister’s Trophy. The tournament which took place at UUM, involving the participation of 24 male and female teams, served as a platform to expose and produce new talents in futsal.

DANCING CONTEST FOR STATES IN THE PENINSULAR, SABAH AND SARAWAK

UPM emerged runners-up in the Dancing Contest for States in the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak at the Malaysian Universities Cultural Competition (MAKUM) level, held at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

MASUM (MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITIES SPORTS COUNCIL) INVITATIONAL RUGBY 7’s TOURNAMENT


UPM’s Rugby Team A and Team B emerged  champions and runners-up in the Cup Category of the Malaysian Sports Council (MASUM) Rugby Championship. UPM retained the championship title in 2014. In the final of the 2015 MASUM Rugby Championship, both teams were out against each other after defeating their rivals in the semi-finals.

MASUM BEACH SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP

 
UPM Takraw and Beach Run teams were champions in their respective categories at 2015 MASUM Beach Sports Tournament. UPM also walked away with a silver through its men team in the Beach Volleyball event.

MASUM RACQUETS TOURNAMENT

 
UPM scored four gold, three silver and two bronze in 2015 MASUM Racquets Sports Tournament. The medals were contributed by its tennis team (2 gold and 1 silver), Squash Team (2 gold and 1 silver), Ping Pong (1 bronze) and  Badminton (1 silver and  bronze).

UPM’s NINTH ARCHERY OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
 

 
UPM was the overall champion in the 9th Archery Open Championship when it recorded 4 gold, seven silver and two bronze.

SMP HIGHEST ASSESSMENT IN MALAYSIA AWARD

 
KOPERASI UPM Berhad’s Stesen Minyak Petronas ( SMP ) was given the highest assessment (first position) out of 1,014 SMP in Malaysia in a research carried out by Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) in December, 2014. The research and evaluation were based on reports and feedback from "Mystery Shoppers - Customer Service & Operational Excellence" in relation to Operational Housekeeping which covered Forecourt Surrounds & Facilities, Forecourt Services, Convenience Store, Toilet Facilities and surau.

AKREDITASI MS ISO/IEC 17025:2005

 
UPM’s Engineering Faculty succeeded in obtaining the status of MS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Accreditation under Malaysian Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAMM) for three years, starting May 19, 2015 to May 19, 2018. The accreditation was obtained from Malaysia Standard Department for its two labs – Material Characterization Laboratory (Chemistry) and Material Strengthening Laboratory (mechanical).

INTER-UNIVERSITY STAFF SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP

 

UPM Chess Team scored four medals – 1 gold and three silver in the Team    Chess category at the 2015 Malaysian Inter-University Staff Sports Championship.

MALAYSIAN  TECH PLAN GRAND PRIX AWARD

 

Three UPM lecturers of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences,  Dr. Khoo Hock  Eng, Assoc Prof. Dr. Azrina Azlan dan Prof Amin Ismail who came out with a business plan “Production of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extracted C-Heart Oil”, were picked as champions in the Tech Plan Grand held for the first time in Malaysia. They represented Malaysia to an Agri Science Grand Prix which was held in Tokyo, Japan, on October 3, 2015.

MASISWA SPORTS FIGURE AWARD


UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan was picked as MASISWA (Sports Council of Higher Learning Institutions) Sports Figure 2014 recipient.  The selection of  Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi as the recipient was in recognition of his vast contributions towards sports development at IPTS, especially during his stint at the Higher Education Ministry.

BIOINNOVATION AWARDS


Five UPM researchers won three gold, three silver and a Special Award at the BioInnovatiaon Awards event held in conjunction with Pameran Inovasi Pharma + Bio Asia 2015 exposition, organized by the Malaysian Association of Research Scientist (MARS) and  Professional Trade Exhibition and Meeting Planners (PROTEMP).  The five were:

  • Assoc. Prof Dr. Nazlina Shaari from the Industrial Design Department of  the Design and Architecture Faculty through her innovation “Utilizing Sago Waste as a Natural Ecopaste in Textile Prints” which won her a gold medal and the “Biotechnology Innovation of the Year” Special Award.

Prof. Dr. Raja Noor Zaliha Raja Abd. Rahman from the Enzyme and Microbial Technology Research Centre of the Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences Faculty, won a gold medal through her innovation “Thermostable Organic Solvent-tolerant Protease”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Sabri Mohd Yusoff from the Veterinary Medicine Faculty won a gold medal through his innovation “Feed-based Recombinant Vaccine”.

Dr. Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani from the Halal Products Research Institute won a silver through his innovation “Lard Detection based on Impedance spectroscopy”,  and

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosnah Shamsudin from the Department of Process and Food Engineering, Engineering Faculty, received two silver medals through two products "Drupe Dehusker” and “Sesame Cracker Machine”.

NATIONAL INTELLECT PROPERTY AWARD

 
Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohamad Fazli Sabri, Nurhayatul Nira Ramli and  Rozita  Wahab from the Human Ecology Faculty of UPM, won a Gold Award under the Copyright category at the National Intellectual Property Award ceremony held in conjunction with the 2015 National Intellectual Property Day. This was the first gold to have been won by UPM under the category at the event which was first introduced in 2006.

They earned their victory through their design “Profesor  Bijak Wang', an initiative to inculcate awareness among the public on wise and prudent financial management practices.  ‘Profesor Bijak Wang’ is one of the items contained in Kit Bijak Wang which contained 10 interactive, fun and interesting games. The games were organized in stages from Easy to The Most Difficult so that children could muster each topic through their own skills and strengths.  It is a board game made locally that could be beneficial in educating the young on financial management from a tender age.

MALAYSIA’S RISING STAR AWARD

 
Two UPM researchers, Prof. Dr. Luqman Chuah Abdullah from the Chemical  Engineering and Environment Department of the Engineering Faculty and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdullah from the Chemistry Department of the Science Faculty, were among four Malaysian elite researchers picked to receive the Malaysia’s Rising Star Award.

The awards formed the highest recognition in the national education system for the articles most cited as reference by researchers all over the world.  Their articles were extracted from ESI (Essential Science Indicators) from 2014 to 2015 by an international indexing agency,  Thomson Reuters based in New York, America. The recognitions were derived from the efforts of Malaysia Citation Centre and the Higher Education Ministry in enhancing the country’s research status by way of giving them the credits at the national and international levels.

HEWM COMMUNITY PROJECT AWARD


UPM came in the first place in two high-impact community project categories at the Pusat Transformasi Komuniti Universiti (UCTC) 2015 Appreciation Award ceremony held in conjunction with the Malaysian Higher Education Week (HEWM 2015).  The two categories were:

The Environment Category which was won by Assoc Prof Dr. Hawa ZE Jaafar who is the Director of UPM UCTC, through a project “Introducing Sustainable and Innovative Propagation Technique for High Quality and Authenticated Kacip Fatimah Plant Materials. She was awarded because of her contribution in producing an authentic Kacip Fatimah variety through the use of cut leaves and seedling breeding technique which had resulted in the preservation of the environment and national biodiversity.

The Rakan UCTC Cemerlang Award for Students Association category was  won by UPM Agriculture Faculty through its Tren Mersing Program Duta Jauhar programme which helped to elevate the economic status of the fishermen community through innovative strategies where agriculture products and tourism could be produced without the use of land but waste materials. This, indirectly, helped to reduce the cost of living of the community.

MIT GSL MALAYSIA AWARD

 
UPM students from the Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) of the Computer Science and Information Technology Faculty, comprising Anas Hasbullah, Daeng Bukhari, Abdul Ammar Rusydi and  Mohd Sharafat Shah won two ‘2015 MIT Global Startup Lab’  (MIT GSL Malaysia) awards. The awards were  ‘Audience Choice Award’ and ‘Best Project Award’ through innovative ‘Queue Management System’, that is ‘Qtime’ which was changed to be a web-based system and mobile application. “Qtime” is a mobile application with a function to manage waiting time for customers. This system (QMS) could give an estimate of customers’ waiting time, starting from the time they took the tickets until they were called to the counter. They will obtain their messages via their smart phones when their waiting time draws near.

CREAM STATUS FOR PRINTING ENCOURAGEMENT SCHEME


Two UPM journals, Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities (JSSH), and  International Food Research Journal (IFRJ) were chosen by the Higher Education Ministry as the recipients of CREAM status under its 2015 Printing Encouragement Scheme. The two UPM journals showed an encouraging performance in terms of their international database for the Scopus category index, each in their respective field of  ‘Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities’ and  ‘Science, Technology & Medicine.’

INTERGOVERNMENTAL SCIENCE-POLICY PLATFORM ON BIODIVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES (IPBES)

 
UPM Forestry Faculty Lecturer,  Prof. Datin Dr. Faridah Hanum Ibrahim was  appointed as the  Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for Assessments on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Asia and the Pacific Region by Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), based in Bonn, Germany.  IPBES is an independent inter-governmental body set up on April 21, 2012 by 94 governments to reinforce interface science policies for biodiversity and preservation of the eco-system for preservation and use of biodiversity and long-term human and sustainable development. The appointment of Prof. Datin Dr. Faridah Hanum Ibrahim as IPBES member served as an international accolade for the expertise of UPM academic staff.

L’OREAL-UNESCO FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP AWARD


Dr. Normi Mohd Yahaya, a Senior Lecturer at Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences Faculty of UPM, was picked as the winner for L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Fellowship Award 2015 in conjunction with the 10th L’Oreal Malaysia celebration.  Dr. Normi was named the winner for her efforts in conducting a research on ways to overcome anti-microbe hurdles by way of producing new peptides as agents to fight pathogens among the increasing bacteria in the world.

IPT RUGBY SUPER 8 CHAMPIONSHIP

 
UPM’s Rugby Team, Serdang Angels was crowned the champion in the 2015 Higher Learning Institutions Rugby Super 8 Championship.  In the final, UPM defeated MPS Hornet 53-0 and UPM also was given the best player award through  its player, Mohd Syarif Saiful Aazwan Sudin.

MYRA STAR RATINGS

 
UPM obtained a six-star rating, the highest in Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) Star Ratings for 2014, thus retaining its excellent performance in the development of research like what it did in 2011.  MyRA or Malaysia Research Assessment is an instrument to benchmark research activities, development, commercialization and innovation (RDC&I) at institutions of higher learning. The rating is not meant to rank the institutions that it assessed.

MERDEKA AWARD


Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Khatijah Mohamad Yusoff, the dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences of UPM, made the university proud when she was picked among six other nation excellent individuals for the 2015 Merdeka Award. Her success is also the success of UPM as this was the first time that an academic member of UPM was given the recognition through such a prestigious award. She received the award based on her outstanding contributions in the field of microbiology and virology and contagious viral diagnosis that could lead to fatalities in poultry and another research on the potential of virus in fighting cancerous cells. The Merdeka Award was presented by Sultan Perak,  Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who is also the Royal Patron for the Merdeka Trust Award Board of Trustees. The award was introduced by PETRONAS, ExxonMobil and Shell.

SOFTWARE & SAS BDA HACKATHON


Innovative creations by students of Bachelor of Computer Science of UPM’s Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM) Faculty won the main prize, second and third prizes for the software category in the ‘Software & SAS BDA Hackathon 2015’ programme organized by TalentCorp Malaysia, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), Dream Catcher and SAS Malaysia. The first prize was for its project, entitled ‘RemLock’ which is an innovation for keyless and smart door house system which could identify the house occupant/s through ‘IMEI’ and their address through ‘Media Access Control’ (MAC) smart phones. The second prize went to its ‘Queue Management System’ entitled ‘Qtime’ while the third prize for its “Bus Pursuit” which featured the element of gamification in bus management.

BAHASA MELAYU ACADEMIC APPRECIATION AWARD


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Aina Dani, a lecturer in Bahasa Melayu Department of UPM’s Faculty of Modern Language and Communication, was picked as the recipient of 2015 Bahasa Melayu Academic Appreciation Award held in conjunction with Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan Sektor Pendidikan 2015 celebration. The Bahasa Melayu Academic Figure Award is a recognition given to academic personnel for their contributions and outstanding efforts in empowering Bahasa Melayu.

AGRO-TOURISM INDUSTRY AWARD


UPM received a recognition from the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries     Ministry as the recipient for its Agro-Tourism Industry award held in conjunction with 2015 Malaysian International Agro-Tourism Exposition (MIATE).

LEADERSHIP ENERGY AWARD


Dr. Vijayaletchumy Subramaniam, a lecturer at UPM’s Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, was one of four recipients of ICLIF Leadership and Governance Centre’s Leadership Energy Award 2015. ICLIF, an international-based centre in Asia, was set up and sponsored by Malaysia’s Bank Negara to provide executive development and consultation in various sectors of the government and the industry not only locally but globally.
