Workshop on Writing with Power - Developing Academic Writing Skills

School of Graduate Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia, in collaboration with Nigerian Students Community University Putra Malaysia, successfully organized a virtual Workshop on Writing with Power - Developing Academic Writing Skills on 17th July 2021, Saturday via Zoom.

This workshop aims to provide participants with a range of writing tools and suggestions to issues that often impede timely completion. We will discuss 'writers' and similar phenomena, suggesting ways of overcoming them. We will present strategies to write more confidently, stylishly and engagingly, and more prolifically. Topics include writing with power- power over the text, power over the process and power over the self; being an independent and resourceful writer, reading like a writer, writing critically; Arguments in the academic writing, the academic writing tool kit, the academic phrase bank, shut-up and write, and the 5 am club.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vijay Mallan, Higher Education Development Centre (University of Otago, New Zealand) was invited as the speaker and more than 300 postgraduate students have participated in the 2 hours workshop. In addition, a Q & A session was conducted to give an opportunity for the participants to ask related questions to the speaker for further understanding of the topic.

The 2 hours workshop starts at 3.00 pm and ends at 5.00 pm.
