Financial Assistance for International Research Attachment

UPM provides financial assistance to graduate students who wish to undertake a research attachment at an overseas institution. This financial assistance aims to enhance international research collaboration, strengthen research capacity, and provide exposure to global research environments. The details of the financial assistance are as follows:

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicant must be a Malaysian citizen.
  2. The applicant must be a registered Master’s or PhD (by research) student at UPM with "Continue" status at the time of application.
  3. The applicant must not have previously received financial assistance under this scheme and must not be receiving any other outbound mobility financial assistance from UPM at the time of application.
  4. The applicant receiving financial assistance from the organizer may be considered, subject to further evaluation by the committee.
  5. The duration of the research attachment must be a minimum of one (1) month and not exceed three (3) months. A justification is required if the proposed duration exceeds three months.
  6. The research to be conducted during the attachment must be related with the applicant’s Master’s or PhD research work.
  7. The applicant must have received an official invitation letter from the host institution.

 

Application Procedures

  1. Download the PG/FAD/GS-42 form.
  2. The form must be completed and endorsed by all the relevant signatories.
  3. Applications must be submitted to SGS at least one (1) month prior to the commencement of the programme together with all the supporting documents.

 

Important Note:

  • Applicants whose applications have been approved by SGS are required to obtain official approval for outbound mobility from the Putra International Centre (i-PUTRA) before the commencement of the programme. Students are therefore advised to plan accordingly to allow sufficient time for the outbound approval process.   • Applications without i-PUTRA approval will not be eligible for reimbursement claim.

 

Rate for Financial Assistance

The maximum amount that can be approved for financial assistance depends on the country and the duration of the programme, as follows:

Reimbursement Claim

  1. Reimbursement claim must be submitted within two (2) months after the completion of the programme by completing the Reimbursement Claim Form.
  2. The completed form must be submitted to SGS together with all relevant receipts and the programme report.

 

Other Requirements

  1. Students are required to submit a report after the completion of programme. The report should include:
  • Brief overview of the objectives and activities of the research attachment;
  • Impact of the programme on students’ research;
  • How the programme enhanced students’ learning experience; and
  • Future collaboration plans with the host institution (if any).
  1. Students who have received this financial assistance are required to include an acknowledgment statement to Universiti Putra Malaysia in the ‘Acknowledgement’ section of their thesis, as follows:

 

"The author would like to express their sincere gratitude to Universiti Putra Malaysia for the financial assistance and support provided under the International Research Attachment funding scheme"
