The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), hosted the SEARCA Scholarship Interview Session for Malaysian applicants for the Academic Year 2026–2027 on 6 February 2026. The interview session was conducted to evaluate the academic potential, research interests, and leadership qualities of shortlisted Malaysian candidates applying for the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) scholarship. The scholarship aims to support postgraduate studies in disciplines that contribute to the advancement of agriculture and rural development in the region.

The session was led by Dr. Maria Cristeta Cuaresma, Senior Program Head at SEARCA, Philippines, and supported by interview panel members from Universiti Putra Malaysia, namely Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Razif bin Harun, Deputy Dean (Graduate Studies and International) from the Faculty of Engineering, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maimunah binti Sanny from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology. Their expertise ensured a comprehensive and rigorous assessment process.

During the interview, candidates were given the opportunity to present their research proposals, academic background, and future aspirations, while demonstrating their potential contributions to the agricultural sector. The session also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between UPM and SEARCA in supporting the development of high-quality postgraduate scholars who are capable of addressing regional and global challenges in agriculture and rural development.
