Seminar Putrasarjana on Critical Review & Research Gap: AI, Google Scholar & Scopus Deep Search

June 12th, 2025 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS/SPS) remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting student research excellence by organizing an intensive workshop titled "Critical Review & Research Gap: AI, Google Scholar & Scopus Deep Search." Held on Thursday, the program was conducted in a hybrid format to provide researchers with exposure to more profound and systematic literature search techniques.

The workshop, which commenced at 10:00 a.m., featured renowned academic consultant Dr. Thavamaran Kanesan, the Founder and Director of Proofreading by A UK PhD. His presence as a guest speaker aimed to share expertise in navigating academic databases and leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology within the research process.

The primary focus of the workshop was to assist postgraduate students in overcoming a major challenge in thesis writing: critically identifying the 'Research Gap.' Dr. Thavamaran emphasized that the correct use of AI tools, combined with deep search techniques on platforms such as Google Scholar and Scopus, can help researchers find more relevant and up-to-date references more efficiently.

Throughout the two-hour session, participants were exposed to:

  • Critical Review Strategies: Methods for analyzing existing literature to build a robust academic argument.
  • Smart Search Techniques: Utilizing keywords and advanced search functions in Scopus and Google Scholar for more precise results.
  • AI Integration in Research: How AI can serve as a supportive tool for summarizing articles without compromising academic integrity.

The program concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to receive direct guidance on specific issues regarding their literature reviews. Through the organization of such workshops, SGS hopes that graduates will be able to produce high-impact research that is globally competitive.
