Financial Aid for Local Graduate Students to Undertake Overseas Research Attachment

Local graduate students at UPM are invited to apply for financial assistance for a research attachment activity at a university/institute overseas. Successful applicant will receive financial assistance from the University and the amount are as below:

  Southeast Asia (except Singapore and Brunei)

  3,000.00

  Asia (including Singapore and Brunei)

  4,000.00

  Other countries

  5,000.00

 

Application requirements

  1. Applicant must be a Malaysian.
  2. Applicant must be a registered Master (by research) or PhD student with good academic standing (the status is “Continue”) at the University and has never received financial assistance under this scheme.
  3. The length of research attachment should be between 1-3 months. Justification must be provided if the duration is more than 3 months.
  4. The research to be carried out during the attachment must be related to applicant’s Master / PhD research.
  5. An official invitation letter from the host institution must be provided when application is submitted.
  6. The application form (GS-42) can be downloaded through this URL LinkThe application form must be endorsed by the academic advisor or the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee and Dean of Faculty / Director of Institute.
  7. The completed application form must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies at least 30 days before the attachment date.

Report Guideline

Student should submit a research attachment report to the Dean, School of Graduate Studies UPM, not later than 2 months after the completion of research attachment. The report should include:

  1. Overview of the objectives and activities conducted/participated during research attachment. Photo of the activities must be attached in the report.
  2. Impact / significance of the research attachment to your Master / PhD research
  3. Contribution of the research attachment towards enriching your experience as a postgraduate student
  4. Plans for future collaboration with the host institution that may involve supervisor or even faculty (if any).
  5. Feedback from other students/faculty members through Experience Sharing Session conducted by the faculty/institute.
  6. Recommendations to improve the “Financial Aid to undertake Overseas Research Attachment” for local graduate students.
