APPLICATION FOR GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANSHIP (GRA)
FIRST SEMESTER 2026/2027

(New Application)

 

School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is pleased to announce that the application for Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) is now open for local and international students for the First Semester 2026/2027.

 

APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Applications are open to local and international students who are currently registered as full time student at UPM or registered under International Collaborative Program (ICP) and meet the following criteria:

    1. Not exceed 6 semesters for Master and 10 semesters for PhD during at the time of the application; and
    2. The study status must be “Continue” while the application is made. Applications with “Thesis Submitted/Deferred/Dropped/Probation/Terminated” study status are not eligible to apply.
    3. Not have previously received funding under the Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) Scheme.
  2. Each application must obtain approval from the Advisor/Supervisor and the Dean/Director of Faculty/School/Institute.

  3. This scholarship is funded by the Advisor/Supervisor/Member of the Supervisory Committee’s research grant. The grant must be valid and active for the term of the GRA appointment made in the semester for which it was applied.

  4. The applicant must also attach the following documents with his/her application:

    1. Copy of the Research Grant Approval Letter; and
    2. Grant/project extension letter from the Research Management Centre (RMC), UPM (if any)


  5. Applicants are not a recipient of any other types of scholarship or financial assistance from other agencies/institutes/bodies and not engaged in any type of employment.

  6. Appointment under this scheme will take affect once an official offer letter is issued by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS). Any request to backdate the date of appointment will not be entertained.

  7. Guideline on appointment are as follow:

    Date Application is Received by SGS Effective Date of Appointment
    On or before the 15th day of the month From the 1st day of the current month
    After the 15th day of the month From the 1st day of the following month

 

INCENTIVES FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS:

  1. Successful applicants will be provided with monthly allowance as recommended by the Supervisor/Chairman/Member of the Supervisory Committee. The monthly allowance is as follows:

    1. Master – RM1,800.00
    2. PhD – RM2,300.00

  2. Recipients may be considered for a higher monthly allowance subject to the approval of the supervisor, amount of grant allocation and ceiling rate as stipulated in the sponsor’s guidelines.

  3. No fee exemption will be given to recipients under this scheme.

      

RECIPIENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

Under this scheme, each recipient is responsible:

  1. To assist in research works as assigned by the advisor/supervisor.
  2. To record daily attendance/log activity online through the student portal.

 

APPLICATION METHOD

  1. Complete the online application form via the student portal at
    http://sgsportal.upm.edu.my:8080/sgsportal/.

  2. Please ensure your Advisor/Supervisor and Dean/Director of Faculty/School/Institute support your application through iGIMS system.

  3. Incomplete applications form will not be processed.

 

Note: If any information given is found to be incorrect, the financial aid scheme will be terminated, and the student is required to refund the full amount of the allowance given.
