
August 22, 2024 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) had the honor of hosting a distinguished delegation from the Commission on Higher Education of Timor Leste. The visit, hosted by UPM’s School of Graduate Studies, highlighted a commitment to fostering international academic partnerships and addressing key areas for advancement in higher education.
The delegation, led by R. Hernâni V. C. Soares, Director-General of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture of Timor Leste, and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Hazman Shah Abdullah, Former Executive of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Zalilah Mohd Shariff, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies aimed to explore the development of targeted training programs and specialized subprograms for academic members of Timor Lester and to explore collaborative opportunities in doctoral and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in the fields of Education, Agriculture, Economics, Management, Engineering, Allied Health, and Biotechnology.


Also present during the visit were representatives from UPM’s Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Educational Studies, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science, and School of Business and Economics. This engagement represents a significant step in strengthening the academic ties between Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Commission on Higher Education of Timor Leste, paving the way for future collaborative endeavors and advancements in higher education across both institutions.
