SERDANG, 16 April 2026 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully hosted the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition 2026, a premier event challenging postgraduate students to distill their complex research into a compelling three-minute presentation. Designed to foster clarity and impactful communication, the competition serves as a vital platform for scholars to bridge the gap between specialized academic research and public understanding.

A total of 33 participants from various disciplines competed in the heats rounds, with 12 finalists advancing to the grand finale. These students captivated the judges and audience by transforming dense technical data into engaging, accessible narratives. In the Science, Engineering, and Technology category, Dayana Said (Faculty of Science) emerged as Champion, followed by Nurin Nadrah Johan (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) as First Runner-up. In Social Science, Pavithra Panir Selvam (Faculty of Educational Studies) took the top prize, with Ngo Zhen Hong (Faculty of Human Ecology) named First Runner-up. The People’s Choice Award, determined by audience vote, was presented to Ng Yu En from the Faculty of Engineering.

The competition’s high standards were upheld by a distinguished panel of adjudicators. The preliminary rounds were evaluated by Prof. Dr. Normaz Wana Binti Ismail (Chair), alongside Prof. Ts. Dr. Razif Harun, Dr. Aini Azeqa Ma’rof, Prof. Ir. Dr. Yus Aniza Yusof, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Syamilah Zakaria. The final round was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liliati Ismail (Head of Adjudicating Panel), supported by Ts. Dr. Mohd Zuhair Mohd Nor and Dr. Thavamaran Kanesan.
