SERDANG, 13 May 2026 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) welcomed representatives from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Nigeria, during the “Monitoring Visit and Interaction Session with TETFund-Sponsored Scholars at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)” held on 13 May 2026 at the Serdang Briefing Hall, Putra Chancellery Building, UPM.
The delegation was represented by Ms. Sulyman Rukayat Funmilayo-Hanafi, Principal Education Officer, and Mr. Alhaji Chiroma Ahmed Yakubu, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, BOT. The session was also attended by representatives from the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), including the Deputy Dean (Admissions, Institutional Relations and Financial Aid), officers from the Financial Aid Unit, representatives from the Bursar’s Office, as well as TETFund-sponsored students currently pursuing their studies at UPM.
The programme served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between UPM and TETFund, while providing an opportunity for direct engagement with the sponsored scholars regarding their academic progress, wellbeing, and study experience at the University.
Several matters were discussed during the interaction session, including the implementation of face-to-face viva voce examinations, tuition fee payment processes and timelines, as well as procedures related to non-graduating programme students. The session also enhanced mutual understanding regarding the importance of timely coordination and communication to support the continuity of the students’ academic journey at UPM.
Currently, UPM hosts 71 active students under the TETFund sponsorship programme. SGS expressed its sincere appreciation to TETFund for its continuous support and commitment towards the development of Nigerian scholars at UPM. It is hoped that the visit will further strengthen the long-standing collaboration between both institutions and contribute positively towards the academic excellence and welfare of the sponsored students.
