August 4th, 2025 – The spirit of patriotism among the community of the School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was clearly evident as the SPS building compound resonated with the singing of the national anthem, Negaraku, during the symbolic Fly the Jalur Gemilang ceremony held this morning. The ceremony began in a solemn and respectful atmosphere, with all staff members and the management team standing proudly to sing Negaraku as a symbol of unwavering loyalty to the nation.

This symbolic activity saw the full participation of the entire SPS community, including the management team led by Prof. Dr. Zalilah Mohd Shariff, Dean of SPS; Prof. Dr. Rusmawati Said, Deputy Dean (Thesis Unit and Student Development); Prof. Dr. Nitty Hirawaty Kamarulzaman, Deputy Dean (Admissions, Financial Aid and Institutional Relations); and Prof. Ts. Dr. Zuriati Zukarnain, Deputy Dean (Academic and Curriculum). Shortly thereafter, the atmosphere became more lively and spirited as a series of patriotic songs were played, evoking the meaningful ambience of the National Month celebrations.
All staff members in attendance were provided with Jalur Gemilang flags at the start of the ceremony. Accompanied by uplifting patriotic melodies, members of the SPS community proudly waved the flags together, creating a vibrant and colourful scene in front of the department building. The active participation of the entire SPS community not only reflected support for the government’s call to enliven the Merdeka celebrations, but also served as a platform to strengthen camaraderie among colleagues. This activity demonstrated that the spirit of unity among public servants remains strong in their continued commitment to contributing to the university and the nation.
