February, 26th, Serdang - The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), through the Putra Sarjana Learning Support Program, organized a seminar on Mastering Chapter 1: Building a Solid Foundation for Your Thesis conducted by Dr. Syafila Kamarudin, Head of Cyber Generation Laboratory, Institute for Social Science Studies, UPM on 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm via zoom meeting. The two-hour seminar was part of the Putra Sarjana Seminar Series, which provides various information, tips, and skills to UPM postgraduate students. The positive response from students and participation from students outside the university reflected the significance of the topic.

This seminar was conducted to help postgraduate students understand and effectively write Chapter 1 of their thesis. It focuses on developing a strong research background, problem statement, objectives, research questions, and significance of the study. By mastering these key elements, students can build a clear and solid foundation for their entire research journey.
Around 300 postgraduate students have participated in the two (2) hours seminar. A Q & A session was conducted to allow the participants to ask related questions to the speaker for further understanding of the topic.
As the session concluded around 12.00 noon, participants gathered for a group photo with the guest speaker, marking a meaningful end to the day’s activity. Many attendees took the opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Syafila Kamarudin for more personalized advice. These informal engagements provided added value to the seminar, reinforcing its objective of empowering students to embark on their research journey with greater clarity and confidence.
