February 26th, 2025, Serdang – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its Putra Sarjana Learning Support Programme, successfully organised an insightful seminar titled “The Role of AR in Medicine: Advancing Education, Precision Surgery, and Patient Rehabilitation” on Wednesday, 26 February 2025. The seminar was conducted by Prof. Dr. Rahmita Wirza O. K. Rahmat from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), UPM, and was held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Dewan Abdul Azim, FCSIT, hybrid via Zoom Meeting.

This two-hour seminar is part of the ongoing Putra Sarjana Seminar Series, an initiative designed to support postgraduate students by providing access to knowledge, practical tips, and exposure to current research and innovative academic discourse. The series aims to enhance students’ academic growth and professional development through expert-led sessions on a wide range of relevant topics.

In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Rahmita delved into the emerging role of Augmented Reality (AR) in modern medicine, highlighting its applications in three key areas: medical education, precision surgery, and patient rehabilitation. She discussed how AR can enhance clinical training by offering immersive simulations, aid surgeons in making precise and informed decisions during procedures, and support patient recovery through interactive and engaging rehabilitation tools.

The seminar received an overwhelming response from postgraduate students within UPM and also attracted participants from other academic institutions. This strong interest reflects the growing relevance of AR technology in the medical field and the importance of staying updated with the latest innovations in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
