SGS Occupational Safety, Health and Well-being Course Strengthens Workplace Safety Awareness Among Staff

May 5th, 2026 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organised the SGS Occupational Safety, Health and Well-being Course at SISFEC UPM, Puchong, as part of its continuous efforts to enhance staff awareness and knowledge regarding workplace safety, health, and well-being.

The programme involved the participation of SGS staff and commenced with the departure of the delegation from SGS at 8.00 a.m. by university bus to the programme venue. The organisation of this course emphasised the importance of creating a safe, healthy, and conducive working environment, in line with the university’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and well-being of its staff.

One of the main highlights of the programme was an ergonomics course entitled “Daily Ergonomics: Solving the Mystery of Your Musculoskeletal Pain”, delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Ng Yee Guan from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. The session provided participants with valuable insights into the importance of proper ergonomic practices, factors contributing to musculoskeletal problems, and preventive measures that can be implemented to reduce the risk of workplace-related injuries.

The programme continued with the renewal of the Employee Pledge, led by Mr. Muhammad Danial Fahmi. All SGS staff participated in reciting the pledge as a symbol of their commitment towards integrity, responsibility, and professionalism in carrying out their duties as university employees. Following the pledge session, staff members completed the acknowledgement process by scanning the QR code provided and confirming their commitment to the pledge.

Participants also took part in a water safety briefing and activity conducted by the UPM Rescue Team at the Blue Lagoon, SISFEC UPM. The session provided practical exposure on water safety awareness, precautionary measures, and appropriate actions to be taken during water-related emergencies.

The programme concluded with a lunch session and preparation before the delegation departed back to SGS at 2.30 p.m. Overall, the course successfully achieved its objectives in strengthening staff awareness of occupational safety, health, and well-being while fostering teamwork and stronger relationships among SGS staff.
