Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, hosted an international seminar titled “Driving Global Competitiveness in Graduate Education through Joint, Dual, and Double Degree Programs” on 2–3 February 2026. The event brought together university administrators, academics, and representatives from Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to exchange perspectives on strengthening graduate education systems and expanding international collaboration.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was represented by Prof. Dr. Zalilah Mohd Shariff, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, who delivered a keynote address highlighting UPM’s strategic approaches to postgraduate education management. Her presentation outlined UPM’s initiatives to attract high-quality postgraduate candidates, strengthen research supervision, and enhance institutional support systems that ensure academic excellence. She also discussed the structured implementation of Joint, Dual, and Double Degree programs at UPM, emphasizing how these frameworks support global academic mobility, promote cross-border research collaboration, and increase graduates’ competitiveness in the international job market.

The seminar also featured keynote speakers from IPB University, Indonesia, and National Central University, Taiwan, who shared institutional experiences and best practices in managing international academic partnerships. Their presentations explored policy frameworks, quality assurance mechanisms, and administrative models that enable sustainable and mutually beneficial degree collaborations between universities.

Throughout the discussions, participants emphasized the growing importance of Joint, Dual, and Double Degree programs as strategic tools for internationalization. These programs were recognized as effective pathways for providing graduate students with diverse academic exposure, intercultural competence, and expanded research opportunities.

The seminar concluded with a shared commitment among participating institutions to strengthen global partnerships, enhance academic quality, and foster innovation in graduate education. By promoting collaborative degree structures, universities aim to better prepare graduates to navigate the demands of an increasingly interconnected and competitive global landscape.
