UPM Strengthens Role in Food Security Through UPM Graduate Forum 2025 (UPMGF 2025)

 

Serdang, 13 October 2025 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its School of Graduate Studies, successfully held the UPM Graduate Forum 2025 at the Auditorium Rashdan Baba, Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Building, UPM. With the theme “Building Research Capacity for Food Security: Innovating Solutions for Sustainable Systems,” the forum brought together more than 170 participants, including postgraduate students, academics, and industry partners, to explore research-driven solutions to food security challenges.

The event featured a keynote address by UPM Vice-Chancellor, YBhg. Dato’ Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Bin Mohd Sadullah, entitled “Advancing Integrated Research for Sustainable and Inclusive Food Security.” In his speech, he reaffirmed the university’s “True North” vision, emphasising the importance of impactful and integrated research, and shared practical tips to guide postgraduate students on their research journey.

  

Organised in collaboration with WAZAN UPM and industry partners including Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad, Fonterra Brands (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., and AMCO Niaga Sdn. Bhd., the forum included six subthemes with plenary speeches by UPM subject matter experts, as well as oral and poster presentations.

A total of twelve students were recognised for their outstanding work, receiving awards as Best Oral Presenters and Best Poster Presenters. Their achievements reflect UPM’s strong commitment to nurturing research excellence and further reinforce the university’s role as Malaysia’s national hub for food security by driving research and innovation, fostering collaborations, and implementing a strategic blueprint.

In her closing remarks, Professor Dr. Zalilah Mohd Shariff, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, highlighted that the forum serves as a platform for building research capacity, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and encouraging innovative solutions for sustainable food systems.
