PYEONGCHANG, (KOREA) – A working paper by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)’s Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP) Deputy Director, Professor Dr Ahmad Ainuddin Nuruddin and Master’s student, Dayang Nur Sakinah Musa was picked as the best working paper at the Fuel Management, Fire Regime Session in the Sixth International Wildland Fire Conference (IWFC 2015).
Entitled “Impact of Burning on Physical Characteristics of Tropical Peat”, it was presented by Dayang Nur Sakinah. She received a certificate which was given away by Korean Forestry Deputy Minister.
Professor Dr Ahmad Ainuddin who presented two working papers was also appointed as a moderator for one of the nine parallel sessions which discussed nine topics relating to wildland fires.
A scientific programme was prepared with five plenary sessions and the presenter of the plenary sessions was a prominent figure in the field of management of wildland fires.
The conference is held once in four years and this is the first time it was held in Asia. Themed ‘Fire in the Past, Fire in the Future’, it was held from October 14 to October 16, attended by more than 3,000 participants from almost 80 countries.
Managers dealing with forest fires, researchers, professionals and policy-makers discussed at great lengths critical fire issues on wildland which affected the community, resources and the eco-system and the management strategic development cooperation on wildland fires, globally.
It was targeted for the industry managing fires, research organizations and fire expertise to display their innovative technologies and methods in handling fires on wildland and to enable them to interact with visitors who turned up at the conference.
The presence of Prof Dr Ahmad Ainuddin was fully sponsored by International Timber Trade Organisation (ITTO) headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, while Dayang Nur Sakinah was sponsored by the ASEAN-Korean Forestry Cooperation (AFoCO),based in Seoul, Korea, respectively. – UPM.
