Industry and community partners feted at UPM’s ICAN 2016

SERDANG –  The University Community And Transformation Centre (UCTC), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), held an ‘Industry and Community Appreciation’ (ICAN 2016) program in appreciation of the contributions made by industry and community partners and to award high-impact industrial and community network programs.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said industry and community partners played their respective roles in completing each other in the implementation of development projects for the country and the society.

“I believe that more programs can be implemented and I welcome all forms of sharing efforts and cooperation between our university and industry and community partners in all disciplines.”

She said UPM is the first public university that had developed the Industry And Community Intelligence Network (ICRIS) which gathered information relating to industry and community network at UPM.

“The industry and community network components which will be used in the promotion exercise for academic officers in the year 2017, was one of the criteria used to evaluate the annual performance of academic officers in 2015,” she said.



The event held for the fifth time by UCTC is held in appreciation of the contributions made by industry and community partners in complementing the functions of the university’s industry and community network.

The climax of the event was the presentation of high-impact projects to industry and community partners, Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ), UPM staff and students who had succeeded in building a good rapport with the industry and the community.



The Best Rakan Industri were presented to Citi Foundation, Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department and Plus Berhad. The Best Community Partner went to Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Negeri Johor (PERKASA), Komuniti PPR Sg. Besi, Kuala Lumpur and Komuniti Semberong, Kluang, Johor.

Jaringan Industri Terbaik (academic staff) was presented to the Director of UPM’s Institute For Aging Research Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Tengku Aizan Hamid and UPM’s Animal Sciences Department Lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus.

Projek Jaringan Komuniti Terbaik (academic staff) went to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halimi Mohd Saud through his Duta Jauhar project - “Benut Agricultural Transformation Scheme”, Environmental Studies Faculty Lecturer, Dr. Ferdius @ Ferdaus Mohamat Yusuff via his  ‘Projek Ternakan Kerang Andara Granosa which featured a new innovation that could maximize the size of corals as a viable business product for Perniagaan Koperasi Kg. Sg. Latoh Masai Bhd and lecturer of Educational Studies Faculty, Prof. Dr. Jayakaran Mukundan through his ‘Program Kecemerlangan Bahasa Inggeris UPM-MARA.’

Julia Abdul Aziz, a staff of UPM Bioscience Institute was presented with the Projek Jaringan Industri Terbaik (non-academic staff) via the ‘Solution for Mass Production of Ficus Carica L. Seedlings through Tissue Culture’ project; Nurkhalizah Sarip, a staff of Design and Architecture Faculty, through her Teratai Semai and Institute of Biosicence Research Officer, Dr. Nor Asma Ab. Razak via her Bangi Green Putera 2015 project.

Student of Bachelor of Communication, Muhammad Khairulanwar was named for the Kem Apresiasi Seni Bina Tradisional project under Projek Jaringan Industri Terbaik (students). Projek Jaringan Komuniti Terbaik (students) went to Bachelor of Agriculture Science student, Muhammad Amiruddin Hashim via Duta Jauhar “Benut Agricultural Transformation Scheme” project.

Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) Terbaik was handed over to UPM’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Management Faculty and the Sports Academy. – UPM.
