The UPM- SEARCA scholarship awards ceremony was held recently on 27 October 2017 to give recognition to students who were selected as recipients for their exemplary achievement. It was also held to recognize the contribution of UPM and SEARCA in offering a joint graduate scholarship to students at UPM. The ceremony was graced with the presence of Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia and Dr. Maria Cristeta Cuaresma, Program Head for Graduate Education and Institutional Development of SEA. This year recipients are Ms. Arissara Sopawong of Thailand and Ms. Nuraizat Abidin of Brunei Darussalam.
Ms. Arissawa is a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture of Ubon Ratchathani University and is pursuing PhD in Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources. On the other hand, Ms. Nuraizat is a Research Assistant at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam and is enrolled in MS in Plant Pathology.
The Joint UPM-SEARCA Graduate Scholarship project was started in 2012 and is now on its second phase. Under this scholarship, the selected student will receive full tuition fee waiver from UPM for a period of 3 years for PhD students and 2 years for Master's students. The SEARCA will provide assistance in the form of monthly allowances, book allowance, research fund, insurance, passes and visas, and flight tickets. This year's award ceremony was also witnessed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ganesan Vadamalai, Head of the Department of Plant Protection and other officials of the School of Graduate Studies of UPM, namely: Prof. Dr. Nor Aini Ab. Shukor, Deputy Dean for Thesis, Learning Support and Publication; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tang Sai Hong, Deputy Dean for Admission and International; and Mr. Saiful Maskan, Senior Assistant Registrar.
