Bacteriology is a fundamental field in veterinary and human health and medicine. Bacteriology is a study on the characteristics, role and effect of pathogenic bacteria as causative agents of animal and human diseases. This field is multidisciplinary involving epidemiology, pathogenicity of organisms, pathogenesis, diagnosis, control and prevention of diseases caused by bacteria. Researches focus on bacterial diseases of economic importance to animal and veterinary industry and of public health importance. Some of the techniques employed in bacteriological researches include molecular biology, biotechnology, genomics and proteomics.
