Current research areas in this field are those of direct relevance to the petrochemical industry: selective oxidation of butane to maleic anhydride, partial oxidation of propane and propene to oxygenates, and oxidative coupling of methane and alkane activation. Other research carried out includes synthesis of novel solid catalysts for biodiesel production, carbon nanotubes, nanostructures and nanoparticles of bulk metal oxides, development of supported metal oxides and solid superacids and photocatalysis.
