Research areas focus on wildlife and exotic animal health in the tropics including disease agents and pathobiology, emerging diseases and zoonosis, epidemiology, conservation medicine, zoo animal management and welfare, reproduction and nutrition. Research projects involve a wide range of taxa including free-ranging wild animals, captive wildlife and exotic pets. Research areas of interest for free-ranging wildlife encompass human-wildlife and livestock-wildlife interface, where emphasis is placed on pathogen and vector diversity and surveillance, disease transmission dynamics, ecological determinants, and effect of habitat alteration. Zoonotic diseases of captive wildlife and exotic pets are studied to understand pathogen diversity and risk factors for transmission. Veterinary conservation projects include breeding and reproductive biology, nutrition, welfare, and captive management of endangered species.
