MEDICAL PHYSICS

Medical Physics is defined as a field that applies the fundamentals of physics for medical purposes. Medical Physics is a field concerned with the technical basis of the use of ionizing or non-ionizing radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as radiology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine. In radiation therapy for example, ionizing radiation is used to treat various types of cancer through external beam radiotherapy or brachytherapy.

Research and development in Medical Physics is essential to maintain and improve the success of this treatment in addition to maintaining the maximum level of radiation safety for patients, workers and the public.
