PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Physical chemistry encompasses the study of atomic, molecular as well as macroscopic physical phenomena that occur on the surface or in the bulk of organic or inorganic substances. Research in this field involves investigation into reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, conductivities, phase formation, chemical relativities and molecular interaction of substances. Recent work focuses on the use of chemical and electrochemical methods in the preparation and analysis of semiconducting thin films for solar cells, organic and inorganic materials for supercapacitors, nanocomposite materials for controlled release, environmental catalysts, conducting polymers, carbons, sensing materials, dielectric solids and ionic conductors. Another focus area is the production of palm oil-based surfactants and their integrated structures in singular and mixed component surfactants. Emphasis is also given to the formation of emulsions in the formulation of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.
