Plant biotechnology involves the use of plant tissue culture, molecular biology and genetic engineering to improve plant productivity; to reduce constraints to plant productivity caused by diseases, pests and environmental stresses; and to improve the quality of plant products. Plant biotechnology improves crop production and utilisation that are beneficial to farmers, the food industry, plantation crop industry, consumers and the environment.
