SUSTAINABLE PLANTATION MANAGEMENT

In order to produce expertise in the field of plantation crops, one of the disciplines that should be focused is sustainable plantation management. Good and environmentally-friendly farm management will ensure sustainable yields and at the same time not harm the environment. Environmental issues are largely related to issues of global climate change and pollution. Climate change is expected to be a challenge to other agricultural systems in the future. Most of the pollution is from human activity and agricultural activity and it can be reduced through good farming practices. At the farm level, this practice includes the use of soil health boosters, water use efficiency, pollution control levels and leaching in the fields.

At the market and consumer level, consumers and traders who are aware of the sustainability issue will demand 'value-based' products that are produced through environmentally friendly methods that enhance the well-being of farmers and strengthen the local economy. The international trade challenge now leads to the use of agricultural products that surpass the sustainability criteria along the supply chain. Hence, the transformation of players' attitude along the value chain of agricultural commodities, especially the smallholders should be changed so that agricultural products are accepted and able to compete in international markets.

This area of interest is mainly focused on students wishing to combine scientific, technical, social, economic and policy knowledge and skills. The interdisciplinary field is expected to equip them with deep understanding and contribute significantly to the process of adaptation of sustainable practices, a sustainable agricultural development balance that combines economic, environmental-friendly and social responsibility. The three pillars of sustainable development will be the basis of research and research by students who will follow this field.

Graduates will be able to pursue their career as agronomists, economics development experts, researchers, lecturers, consultants, and policy makers in government or private organizations. The career is not limited in the country, but is able to compete internationally.
