UPM – PSU DUAL PHD DEGREE



The Dual PhD degree (DDP) with Prince of Songkla University (PSU) is a collaboration programme between UPM and PSU, where upon completion of the DDP, students will be awarded with two certificates, one from UPM and one from PSU. Under this programme, students are required to complete part of the programme at UPM and PSUU. Only one thesis is required for examination and it will be evaluated by a Joint Thesis Committee which consists of examiners from both institutions and other members as specified in the rules and regulations of each institution.


How long does it take to complete the programme?

The programme takes three to four years (six to eight semesters) to complete.  You are required to spend at least one year at UPM and PSU.


What are the benefits?

The programme enriches the international study and experience of PhD candidates. Students get to work in two universities and have access to the latest research equipment and facilities.  Students will also gain from the knowledge and experience of the department and research groups from both UPM and PSU.  The Dual PhD Degree programme not only facilitates international experience and networking, it offers a more substantial association and real collaboration in research supervision.  It provides PhD students with an unforgettable international experience and personal and professional links at the start of their career.

You can specialise in any of the following programmes, or any other programme which is offered at both UPM and PSU:

a. Biotechnology

b. Food Science

c. Food Technology

d. Electrical and Electronic Engineering

PSU Standard Fees will be charged. Thai and Malaysian students will be charged on local rate and students from other countries will be charged on international rate.


How much is the processing fee and how do I pay?

The processing fee for international students is USD63.60 (or equivalent). For local applicants, the processing fee is MYR63.60.

What are the entry requirements?

A Master’s degree or other equivalent qualifications together with evidence of professional standing.

You are also required to fulfil the minimum English language requirement. Each discipline will have its own requirements, but typically, you need to obtain at least Band 6.0 for IELTS (minimum 5.5 for each component).
