The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to the way people communicate, work, and live their daily lives. This technology has simplified many tasks and improved efficiency; however, it has also raised concerns about its impact on human values and social relationships.
One of the most noticeable effects is the change in how people interact. Face-to-face communication, which involves body language, tone of voice, and courteous behavior, is increasingly being replaced by digital communication that is brief and informal. This shift has the potential to erode values such as politeness, empathy, and mutual respect in everyday interactions. In addition, excessive use of technology may cause individuals to prioritize the virtual world over family ties and community relationships.
AI and digital media also create opportunities for negative behaviors such as cyberbullying, the spread of false information, and the use of offensive language. The anonymity provided by digital platforms often reduces users’ sense of responsibility for their actions. In the long run, this situation may weaken moral and ethical values in society, particularly among younger generations.
Furthermore, the easy access to foreign cultures through digital technology influences local values and social norms. Without proper guidance, local traditions and Eastern values may be marginalized and viewed as outdated or irrelevant.
Nevertheless, AI itself is not the main cause of the erosion of human values; rather, it is how the technology is used that determines its impact. Therefore, digital ethics education, responsible technology use, and encouragement of face-to-face interaction must be strengthened. A balanced approach between technological advancement and the preservation of human values is essential to ensure that technological progress does not compromise identity and social harmony.
