Ramadan in the Digital Era: Using Technology Wisely

The month of Ramadan is a time filled with blessings and opportunities to strengthen faith and improve oneself. However, in today’s fast-paced digital era, human life is increasingly influenced by technology and social media. Smartphones, digital applications, and various online platforms have become part of people’s daily routines. Therefore, the main challenge for Muslims today is how to use digital facilities wisely so that they do not distract from the true purpose of Ramadan.

In reality, technology can be a very beneficial tool if it is used in the right way. Through various digital Qur’an applications, online religious lectures, and Islamic learning platforms, Muslims can easily gain knowledge and draw closer to Allah SWT. In addition, social media can also be used to share reminders, hadith, verses from the Qur’an, and motivational messages that can inspire others throughout the month of Ramadan.

However, uncontrolled use of technology can cause a person to become distracted from acts of worship. Spending too much time browsing social media, watching entertainment videos, or playing online games may reduce the time that should be devoted to worship such as reading the Qur’an, performing dhikr, and performing voluntary prayers. Therefore, Muslims should manage their use of technology by setting time limits and choosing content that is beneficial.

Ramadan in the digital era also provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships. Through communication applications such as messaging and video calls, family members and friends who are far away can stay connected, exchange Ramadan greetings, and spread positivity. This indirectly helps strengthen bonds between people even when they are in different locations.

In conclusion, technology is not a barrier to appreciating the beauty of Ramadan if it is used wisely. By prioritizing beneficial content and managing the time spent on digital devices, Muslims can turn technology into a tool to enhance their worship and faith throughout this blessed month. Ramadan should be the best time to improve oneself, both in the real world and in the digital world.
