Time Management for Graduate Students

Time management is very challenging for graduate students, especially for adults leaners who juggles in life as many role and with a lot of different commitments and responsibilities. They need to balance their time as students, employees and even with their families. Therefore, time management is very important to them as it is the key to harmonizing and stabilizing their lifestyle. Good time management can bring many benefits such as maintaining good relationships with friends and family.

So here are some tips for time management strategies:

1. HAVE A  LOGBOOK/NOTEBOOK

Set up a logbook or notebook and take it with you wherever you go. It's very important because with the book, you must write 'things to do' every day. Emphasis on tasks and things first and foremost. Always consult your logbook  to find out what you need to do on the day. Always make it easy to carry and store for practical use .

2. CREATE A WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Create a weekly schedule to determine what tasks you need to do on a daily basis. Determine the amount of time it takes to complete an assignment. Spare a time for academic and non-academic activities. Make sure everything is written and stated in the weekly schedule.

3. AVOID DISTRACTION WITH TRIVIA MATTERS

In this age of advanced technology, we are often distracted by such trivial matters as spending too much time on social media like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. So, avoid getting caught by spending too much time on social media. Limit a few minutes to relax on social media. Discipline yourself and always set the time to keep drifting and wasting time there.

4. FOCUS

Re-focus your objectives on furthering your studies. What you want to achieve for the future. Focusing on goals is the best way to discipline yourself to manage your time well. Stay away from things that may distract you or prevent you from completing tasks. If switching off a cell phone is the way to focus, it can be done. If you think you can focus on doing your job at a cafe or restaurant, please do so. Every effort you make is the determinant of future success.
