“A Day With Rohingya Children” was a collaborative program involving various quarters: the School of Graduate Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia, the forestry faculty, Asean Young Leaders Forum (AYLF) and Badan Kebajikan Islam Telekom (BAKIT). The programme was held in Sultan Idris Shah Forestry Education Centre (SISFEC), Puchong on 16 September 2017.
The objectives of the programme were twofold: to offer morale support for the Rohingya cause and to serve as a catalyst towards more systematic efforts with regard to the welfare of the Rohingya refugees.
In the main, the event was participated by 35 postgraduate students comprising Student Representative Council (MPP), UPM International Students’ Association (UPMISA) and Peer Support Group (PSG). Present too, were 42 Rohingya Children, aged 7-16 years old, chaperoned by 2 teachers and they were all from the Klang Valley area.
YBhg. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Saripan, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) officiated the event. In attendance too, among others, was YBrs. Tuan Muhammad Fikri Ahmad, Vice President AYLF.The event ended at 5.00 pm, i.e. after effectuating the Three Planting Ceremony. For this, 200 Gaharu Seedlings were planted.
