December 10th, 2024, Bangi – In an effort to enhance services for students, the School of Graduate Studies (SPS) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Academic Department of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The primary objective of this visit was to benchmark the management of postgraduate student administration at UKM, including program offerings, new student admissions, candidature processes throughout their studies (including viva voce), academic program quality assurance, and to explore facilities related to postgraduate student management at UKM.

The delegation from SPS UPM comprised six officers and 24 staff members from the Dean’s Office, Academic and Curriculum Unit, Admissions, Institutional Relations and Financial Assistance Unit, and Thesis Unit. Also accompanying the team was a representative from the International Centre (i-Putra), Mr. Abdul Razif. The team was warmly welcomed by UKM officials and brought to the meeting room for a briefing session.

The visit provided valuable insights for SPS in terms of postgraduate student management structures, the roles of appointed officers, and the methods/systems used by UKM to manage their students. The three-hour session included briefings, introductions, and concluded with a tour of student facilities around the UKM campus with the attending officers.

It is hoped that this initiative by SPS UPM to improve the quality of postgraduate student services will have a significant positive impact on UPM students.
