July 16^th 2022, Serdang - School of Graduate Studies (SGS) had the honor to collaborate with the Institutional Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee (IBBC) UPM in organising Putra Sarjana Online Seminar: Biosafety and Biosecurity Awareness Briefing for postgraduate students on 15th July 2022 via Zoom.

IBBC UPM reviews protocols involving potentially biohazardous materials and decides to approve the level or to submit the protocol for committee review.  Only then the researcher will submit the reviewed protocol in IBBC Forms 1 (accomplished by the proponents/researchers) and 2 (accomplished by the laboratory manager) to the NIH-IMBB Central Lab for issuance of the certificate/clearance.  The IBBC clearance/certificate is signed by the over-all chair of the committee once the protocol is approved.

The invited speakers were, Dr. Nor Yasmin Abd Rahaman from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, who has shared about the Overview of Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity Practices, meanwhile Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suet Lin from Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences continued the session with the Briefing on Procedure and Execution of UPM Biosafety and Biosecurity.

There were almost 300 postgraduate students that have participated in the two (2) hours seminar. A Q & A session was conducted to allow the participants to ask related questions to the speakers for further understanding on the topic.

The seminar started at 3.00 pm and ended at 5.00 pm.
