Promoting Heathy Daily Routines Through Art Therapy

July 13th, 2023, Serdang – Mental health and emotional well-being are not only about exercising and yoga. Activities as simple as colouring and drawing can reduce stress apart from boosting one’s mood to perform tasks. The Students Affairs and Media Unit of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) have conducted a basic Art Therapy session with the staff members during the daily morning call session.

The activity was started off with a briefing by Ms. Pavithra on the background and purposes of Art Therapy in general. Every attending staff member was given a piece of A4 paper and several instructions for them to draw off. They were mainly requested to draw things that describes their personality and memories of events that have changed their perceptions towards certain matter. This method will give their mind a temporary pause in order to focus on just one thing at a time.

The short 20 minutes session was enjoyed by all the 21 staff that were present, through their active participation. Such initiatives are crucial in ensuring the mental and emotional health of the department’s staff.
