July 23rd, 2025 – The School of Graduate Studies, in collaboration with Sultan Abdul Samad Library, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organized another impactful session under the Putra Sarjana Seminar Series on July 23rd, 2025. The seminar, entitled "How to Win the Problem Statement in Qualitative Research", was delivered by the esteemed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arsyad from the Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM, and held via Zoom Meeting.


The session aimed to equip postgraduate students with a deeper understanding of constructing strong and compelling problem statements in qualitative research. The objectives of the seminar were to enhance participants’ understanding of the role and importance of the problem statement in qualitative research, guide postgraduate students in identifying research gaps and formulating clear, focused, and researchable problem statements and provide practical strategies for aligning the problem statement with research questions, objectives, and theoretical frameworks. It also may help participant to strengthen critical thinking and academic writing skills in developing impactful qualitative research foundations.
The seminar received an encouraging response from postgraduate students across various disciplines, highlighting their enthusiasm to improve research skills and academic communication. This initiative reflects UPM’s continuous commitment to empowering its postgraduate community through the Putra Sarjana programme.
