SEARCA Awarding Ceremony (FY2021/2022)

On 24th August 2022, SEARCA commended the two PhD SEARCA scholars who completed their graduate studies in Fiscal Year 2021-2022, through the SEARCA Awarding Ceremony that was held at the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The ceremony was attended by Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, Director of SEARCA and Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, Senior Program Head for Education and Collective Learning, SEARCA who flew all the way from the Philippines to celebrate the two award recipients.

The one-hour ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International, Professor Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail, the former country Malaysia’s representative to the SEARCA Governing Board, Dato’ Professor Dr. Zulkifli Idrus, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Professor Dr. Zalilah Mohd Shariff, the recipients’ main supervisors, Dean of Faculties and the SGS Management Team. In the opening remarks, Professor Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail congratulated both award recipients on their achievements and thanked SEARCA for the synergistic relationships that mutually benefits both organizations.

 

 

SEARCA awarded the Special Citation for Academic Achievement Award to Dr. Shahidah Md. Nor who has completed her PhD in Horticulture at the Faculty of Agriculture. She is a DAAD-SEARCA scholar who obtained a general point average of a perfect 4.0; published 7 papers as lead author in refereed journals and presented 4 others in scientific forums during her incumbency as a SEARCA scholar. She has also presented at the ATMI-ASEAN High Level Policy Forum and was chosen as a Chrysalis Award finalist, meant to contribute to Malaysia’s Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economic ecosystem.

The Outstanding SEARCA Scholar Award for FY 2021/2022 was awarded to Dr. Tuan Syaripah Najihah Tuan Mohd Razali who has completed her PhD in Agricultural Technology at the Faculty of Science. She was awarded based on her academic grade point average, duration of studies in the degree program, papers presented in international conferences, publications in scientific journals, academic awards or recognitions received, and other curricular activities and engagements.

The award recipients shared their PhD journey with other attendees and expressed their gratitude to SEARCA for providing the awards and recognizing their achievements. In the closing remarks, Dr. Maria Cristeta congratulated UPM as one of the University Consortium (UC) members who actively participating in the UC activities, scholarships, and grants. She also hoped that UPM and SEARCA will keep up the momentum in accelerating transformation through agricultural innovation.
